Likewise each of these events have their own cultural weight.

Sinhalese Tamil New year commanly known as Bakmaha Ulela, Aluth Aurudda, Aurudu mangallaya, Kona Mangalya, and Kona Gediya too.

According to linguistics the term Aurudda is a evolution of centuries,

havaraja>havurudu>aurudu>aurudda

Lets take the term "Aurudda", it will be broken in to two seperste words for better manifestation.

Aur + idda -  "Aur" simply means the Sun according to Mesopotamian people. Ancient Mesopotamian civilization too had a great faith on Sun whose civilizations built by the Ypretise and Tygries River Bank. Sun was called as the life of the earth. There were even vast buildings called "Shigurath" in order to worship Sun.

Idda gives the meaning of "upright", when sun comes to the top of Sri Lanka, it is the Aurudda.  April sun locates at  the top of Sri lanka and its very close to the island. With its direct effect whole environment becomes more viable. It brings happy to the community. Its a festival in all sense.

Its clear that Sinhala and Tamil New year,

II) it is a token of appreciation for sun

III)is based on astrology and ayrvedha concepts.

Iv) is a combined festival of both Sinhala and Hindu community which reflects reconciliation among them.
