SIGIRIYA-  HOTSPOT Of ANCIENT TECHNOLOGY



Sigiriya ancient rock fortress said to be built by king Kashyapa whose father was king Dathusena. This is situated in Matale distric central provice at Dambulla town.

Sigiriya is well known for its architectural design as well the technology used. According to the history it was built within 18 years. Some argue that this was not a 100% creation of King Kashyapa, according to them Sigiriya has a long history which goes back to King Ravana. According to them this was Alakamdawa of Kuwera,  Mayadana who was the greatest architect ever constructed and gifted unto Kuwera. 

However its origin, Sigiriya is truly amazing work, summit of the rock fortress is about three acres consisted with stone ponds, stages, Royal pavilion and many other architect designs. Each of its features show the pride of our nation. 

WATER TECHNOLOGY

Its miraculous functioning is amazing. The basic technology of setting up the fountain system is water pressure and the gravitational force. The pressure was made by the pipe system likewise nowadays. Whereas the validity of  Sigiri system is  pipes are made of clay which are pure eco friendly in all sense.

Sigiriya is in dry zone which gets about 1500mm-2500mm rainfall throughout the season, during the monsoon rain Sigiriya lake gets water and water fountains are functioning well.

These water fountains are laid on both North and south sides. while adding natural beauty the water flow to the miniature water garden. This water garden was a novel concept by that time and it was a new water preservative method. Since its in the dry zone creators of this fortress were wise enough to take the maximum use out of water. And this water system might cause reduce the temperature of the top.

MIRROR WALL

This was made of brick masonry and covered in highly polished white plaster, and it is said that king Kashyapa could see himself while stalking around.  The composition of the mirror wall is still mystery. So many people came for visiting this masterpiece have written many things on love and all other. 

SIGIRI FRESCOSES 


Sigiriya was a masterpiece with all luxurious things. There are only handful of paintings by now, whereas according to the history there were more paintings. The most wondrous thing is, these paintings are alive even today. Some historians say that these ladies in paintings are Upul and Bo who were two daughters of King Kashyapa while others ignore the fact. However the colours used by ancestors were very bright as well durable, the technology in it is excellent. 

Its our duty to keep and preserve this for coming generations.
